Pavel made connections in British Columbia to have his own translator for the series from Russian to English (and the partners were native speakers of both Russian and English).
In August 2016, when Pavel was already editing the final episode of the first season, he remembered that a long time ago, he filmed the beginning of the story of Another Reality in one of the abandoned houses, as well as in the catacombs…
As a reminder, the film was called “Another Reality” in 1010, and starred Elena Lagoda and Alexander Korzukhin. The plot revolved around a young couple planning to move into an abandoned house, clean it up, and renovate it, but they stumble upon occult objects in one of the rooms, which was always locked… By the end of the story, Lena finds herself in the catacombs…
And then Pavel remembered the movie Cursed (2011), about the events that happened to the girl Sasha, she comes to the village to visit her classmate, and on the way she came across those very anomalous catacombs and the plot began to unfold…
These were films, and although they have a connection to the series, it is indirect.
Pavel makes a controversial decision to remake these stories with new actors and release the films in theaters.
The first project Pavel took on was Cursed 2016.
Pavel is tired of actors coming and going, like in a game of chess. It’s better to make a film, have a coherent plot, release it in theaters, make money, and then decide how to release the series widely.
Pavel and Sergey purchased an action camera to make their shooting style even more amateur, mainstream, and unique.
The first film is called Cult (in which Yana Chapaeva starred with Vitaly Marks and Sergei Bubnov), and the second film is Cursed 2016 (a remake of 2011), starring Maria Pyzhikova, Alexander Gudkov, Sofia Mogil, Vitaly Orover, and Sergei Bubnov.
KARBUSH Film Company LLC also acquired American composer Kevin MacLeod (under a CC license) and distributors for English-speaking audiences.
The films were shot quickly!
The actors participated from start to finish.
The film Cult required re-dubbing.
The 2016 film “Cursed” turned out light and musical; the editing flowed like a light song. But with “Cult,” things weren’t going so well; they couldn’t find the right music… And the dubbing process dragged on. Pavel and Sergey even had to record all the sounds, footsteps, creaks, and so on…
As a result, the film Cursed (2016) was ready for release in theaters earlier than Cult.
