Special effects

Unfortunately, the creators had to forgo special effects due to a lack of budget and specialists.

The main focus of the storyline and the hallmark of the series is the drama and the acting skills, aiming to make the audience truly believe in the character, feel the chills, and understand that they are experiencing that very other reality alongside the hero.

Team of scriptwriters

The main idea for the series originated with Pavel Latushkin, as he had to do everything himself, while others helped him generate ideas and write dialogues, including Yana Chapaeva, Maria Kharchenko, Anara Nurbaeva, Natalia Taran, Alexandra Afanasyeva, Sofia Mogil, Sergey Bubnov, Sergey Khlynzev, Anton Shevchenko, and Alexander Gudkov.

In the early days, when the series was still a film in 2010 and bore the unfortunate title «The Abyss,» it was clear that it resembled more of a fan-made project inspired by the movie «Hellraiser.» However, thanks to Maria Kharchenko joining the team, she and the others spent entire nights at fast-food restaurants refining the idea, writing the script, and developing the dialogues. They literally rushed to Upper Karbush the next day to shoot this hot storyline.

Later, work began on another film (Cursed 2011), with Natalia Taran and Anara Nurbaeva taking on the role of screenwriters. The film «Cursed 2011» is considered a project of the golden team of Pavel Latushkin, Igor Suppes, Natalia Taran, and Anara Nurbaeva (Mukhanjarova). During this time, the team was well-structured (of course, there were disputes, disagreements, and quarrels), but everyone managed to find common ground and engage in true creativity. At that moment, Pavel had a thought in his mind that he did not want to part ways quickly with such a team and aimed to work on long-term projects with them.

Starting in 2014, Yana Chapaeva became a permanent script assistant.

However, Pavel still had to frequently change the script and storyline on the fly, because the project was amateur, and many worked without any remuneration, which led to unpleasant moments (actors not showing up), leaving, declining, and so on. Therefore, if we compare the originally planned storyline with what ultimately was filmed, it becomes immediately apparent that the series differs from the initial conception by about 80%.

The inspiration for the spirit of the series «Another Reality» came from films like «Hellraiser» and series such as «Supernatural,» «Salem,» «The 100,» «Boulevard Horrors,» «Lucifer,» «Constantine,» and «American Horror Story.»

Thus, the main idea of the series is another reality, where something secretive and unidentified constantly pursues the characters and does not let them go until the very end. Therefore, no matter what the script or plot may be, the essence of that other reality must be present in the character’s gaze, words, actions, and thoughts, and the audience should feel it.

Myths, facts, metaphors of the series

In the first season, a demon (Satan) and a character known as Boss Vitaly Vitalyevich are introduced. He supposedly became ill from the abnormal catacombs due to a split personality. In the catacombs, he presents himself as Satan.

The characters will frequently use many terms related to the world of demons, shadows, and the mysteries of magic, including occult objects, amulets, seals, knives, and various legends of witchcraft and cults.

The plot will also hint at the existence of the city of Asgrad Iriyskiy in a past life—where the Gods lived and where there was a powerful force that enveloped the city of Asgrad, acting like a protective field to safeguard its inhabitants and the Gods from disease, illness, and enemies. This force is called Grace.

This story is not about magic and witchcraft but about the people who confront these forces, and the audience will see how the characters process their experiences. The main twist is, of course, not to allow the viewer to see the true evil, the unclean, demonism, witchcraft, and mysticism; however, these elements are part of the plot and part of the characters’ journeys. They must go through this to understand how to fight, how to prevail, and most importantly, how to stay alive.

But even if a hero dies, it does not mean they have vanished forever (there is always a force that can resurrect a body, but it will be a different person). They will continue to carry the burden of the fallen but will become something or someone else… What they will become is known only to the other reality.

It is always intriguing to watch where this schizophrenia will lead, but be prepared for a plot that can change so drastically that emotions arise—“How could this happen???” And it will happen! This is another reality! Anything can happen at any moment!

The creators of the series have moved away from standard templates and clichés; they conceived this project to surprise and leave a strong impression.

Characters

The series focuses on another reality and the enigmatic events that surround not only our heroes but also shows how easily one can become entangled in this eternal struggle between good and evil. The plot revolves around Selena, Madina, and Vitaly Vitalyevich, played by Alexandra Afanasyeva, Yana Chapaeva, and Vitaly Orover. They are so deeply involved in the events of this other reality that it sometimes seems as if the entire story revolves around them.

Now, be cautious: Spoilers ahead.

Selena (Alexandra Afanasyeva) is writing a book about this other reality. She assures her friends that she experiences intriguing dreams, which she later recounts in her writings. However, Selena is shaken when she realizes that she has been documenting actual events that have already occurred, as well as those that are yet to unfold. Her book is referenced multiple times throughout all three seasons.

Madina (Yana Chapaeva), by nature, is a strong girl who claims to have saved the world, helped people, and vanquished evil. Yet this time, she has decided to take on protégés who have endured the hardships of fate. The victims who visited the catacombs of the village Upper Karbush have become unhinged, and the force within the catacombs turns people into deranged schizophrenics, maniacs, or even clairvoyants. Madina’s mission is to help, warm, and love them. However, a great deal has fallen on her shoulders, and she will need to be armed and ready for everything that comes her way.

Vitaly Vitalyevich (Vitaly Orover) is indeed a unique character in this narrative—a remarkable personality who embodies hidden, sexual passion and an aura of evil. Throughout the first season, viewers will be left wondering whether he is truly kind, perhaps evil, or if he is deliberately pretending. Is he merely a victim of the influence of the catacombs, or is there some magic at play? One thing remains unclear: how he managed to orchestrate several nefarious deeds simultaneously while everyone regards him as just another schizophrenic.

While there aren’t many main characters in the series, there is a substantial number of secondary characters, such as:

**Sasha (Alexander Gudkov)** – A good friend who aims to be Selena’s main love interest. He eagerly reads her stories and invites her out, hoping to win her over. However, Selena has other plans, which forces Sasha to make compromises, and he is determined to show her more than just what she writes about.

**Sonya (Sofia Mogil)** – A ten-year-old girl and close friend of Selena, who is deeply fascinated by Selena’s tales of the other reality.

**Anton (Anton Shevchenko)** – A victim of the abnormal catacombs, who in the past fought against unclean forces.

**Pavel (Pavel Latushkin)** – Pavel is the owner of the house where the victims of the abnormal catacombs, led by Madina, have settled. However, he is also an ordinary victim of the same catacombs, and as such, he has been literally overthrown from his role as the house’s owner. Strangely, everyone seems to have forgotten that he hired Selena—or, rather, forced her to finish her book and come to him in Upper Karbush, to that very house where the other reality began.

**Danil (Vlad Blinov)** – Another victim of the abnormal catacombs, Danil begins living with Madina under her care and becomes part of something larger. He is in love with Madina and is willing to do both good and bad things for her.

**Elisei (Valentin Morskoy)** – A former journalist, charming, attractive, and youthful, he fits the type that Madina is drawn to. However, Elisei’s fate lies elsewhere, and it won’t be connected to the Other Reality. This character exists to help the audience distinguish between what is real and what is not, representing the thin line between before and after—or between realities.

**Nadezhda (Maria Khabrostina)** – Nadezhda is a former journalist who worked alongside Elisei. She investigates the events that have unfolded in Upper Karbush, becoming so engrossed in the mystery that she fails to notice she has become part of this other reality herself.

**Max (Maxim Gavrilov)** – Max stumbles upon the catacombs, encounters Madina, and all those present there. He decides to film a show about the supernatural, intending to tell the world about the mysterious events that transpired in Upper Karbush, aiming to make a fortune from it and live a life of luxury.

**Dan (Radion Eldrakhanov)** – Another friend of Sonya, Dan plays a supportive role in helping her find herself and become who she truly is. However, he often remembers himself last; he finds himself uncertain about what to do, as the deeper he immerses himself in the Other Reality, the more he forgets about his past life.

**Sergei (Sergiy Bubnov)** – A banker and taxi driver, Sergei is yet another atypical member of the coalition of the Other Reality. There are rumors that he is a fictional character, created by the Other Reality itself to protect its world from malevolent and unworthy individuals. In truth, Pavel appointed him as the guardian of this alternate reality; his task is to filter the chosen ones, deciding who may enter and who must be kept out.

**Vega/Lilith (Maria Pyzhikova)** – A charming businesswoman who also practices magic and witchcraft, Vega possesses unique gifts but is cursed with multiple personalities. She wields significant influence over Vitaly Vitalyevich, shaping many of the events that unfold around him.

**Vlada (Darya Ermakova)** – Although Vlada can’t be labeled a victim of the abnormal catacombs, she has become an integral part of these turbulent events. As a medium and a clairvoyant, she has seen the history of the catacombs from a distance and rushed toward her goal in Upper Karbush. Though she has never actually been in the catacombs, she serves as a conduit and an extension of the story surrounding the victims.

**Vita (Yulia Star)** – Vita is a close friend and client of Vlada. She seeks out Vlada’s services to enhance her beauty, particularly to impress her banker. A rather eccentric personality, Vita craves everything at once; her mind is consumed with horror stories and men, but she values the rewards she can achieve more than her own life.

**Makar (Artem Krivonosov)** – Recently fallen in love with Vlada, Makar shares a past relationship with her. However, Vlada invited him to bed only to satisfy her own hunger, heat, and passion in an attempt to understand who she truly is.

**Dima (Vitaly Marks)** – Another character from the Other Reality, Dima has yet to experience the catacombs but is already filled with his own desires and ambitions. His primary goal is to explore the Other Reality, gather power, and conquer the world, even aiming to reshape it in his own image. Dima is one of those pivotal characters who stirred the pot within the Other Reality; he performed a ritual of a cult and summoned Madina.

Episode 1 – Cult

Alice moved to the village to be with her boyfriend Dima. They plan to renovate their new home together and start a family. However, as soon as Alice stepped over the threshold of the house, strange and inexplicable phenomena began to occur.

She constantly feels as if someone or something is following her, trying to scare her away from this place. Alice also frequently finds herself immersed in strange dreams that she cannot explain.

It is clear that all these events are not coincidental, and Alice will have to uncover the truth about what is happening.

It turns out that the house they live in is connected to past events that she must decipher.

**Episode 2 – Escapism**

A girl named Selina, who possesses the rare gift of Escapism, decided to visit Alice’s and Dima’s house, as she is writing a book about the Other Reality, where the main characters are Alice and Dima. Their home has become a source of inspiration for her. The time has come for a new mission, and the client is Pavel. Selina is about to test the new abilities that have been bestowed upon her…

Will Selina be able to handle the task at hand? How far is she willing to go? Can she survive?

**Episode 3 – Anomalous Zone**

The main storyline follows Madina, who narrates the tale of the anomalous catacombs, where victims change and become different beings.

The story of Selina unfolds as she writes a book about a parallel reality, where she discovers strange dreams about Vitaly Vitalyevich, who becomes trapped in the catacombs and is subjected to an inexplicable force.

As Selina’s condition begins to deteriorate, her friend Sonya seeks help from a buddy named Sasha. Together, they decide to head to Upper Karbush, a place mentioned in Selina’s writings. Selina, Sonya, and Sasha enter the catacombs, where Selina is suddenly attacked by someone…

**Episode 4 – Journalists**

The protagonist Madina attends an interview with “former” journalists who have shown great interest in the mysterious catacombs and her home. The house where Madina lives serves as a refuge for strange individuals who have ventured into the abandoned catacombs, which transform into anomalous zones that change the lives of their visitors forever. Madina strives to help these people return to normal life, but she soon realizes that the problems are far greater than she anticipated. During her absence, Daniil – spurned by Madina’s refusal of love – decides to take revenge on all of her wards. In the end, Madina resolves to heal the catacombs from the anomalous zone…

**Episode 5 – The New Gifted One**

This episode tells the story of Vlada, who is visited every night by a man for intimate encounters… But is it true or not? This is the question that Vlada must answer for herself. Her friend Vita jokingly advises Vlada to find a man if she is having such dreams.

However, everything happening to her is no coincidence… Vlada decides to take radical measures to confront the problem of her dreams. She begins a romance with an ex… but unfortunately, nothing works out.

Vita’s advice proves to be useless. Now, nightmares haunt Vlada not only in her dreams but in reality as well – she is literally plunged into the illusions of the past, recalling events in the catacombs and in the house where Madina lived with her wards…

**Episode 6 – Activation of Grace**

Madina is visited by the ghost of Pavel, who thirsts for revenge for his death. However, now Madina herself suffers, as after healing the catacombs, she gained incredible powers that have started to weigh heavily on her.

She becomes immersed in strange hallucinations, where everything that happens can be mistaken for true reality.

Yet, on her horizon appears Vitaly Vitalyevich, the villain from the catacombs, who invites her to open another reality for him.

**Episode 7 – The End for Posterity**

Vlada continues to witness events from the past… Accompanied by her beloved Makar, Vlada is visiting, unconsciously staying with the kind Vega, but the memories of Vega’s past yield no positive results…

Vlada arrives in Karbush and finds the very house where the events of the anomalous zone took place, finding solace there…

Vita is more eager than ever to receive her due reward for her excellent work, but Vitaly Vitalyevich steps onto the scene with his own plans…

**Episode 8 – Who Am I?**

Sonya seeks support and tries to find herself in her new acquaintance Dan. Meanwhile, we follow Madina, who is also searching for herself and suffering from memory loss.

The banker assists Madina and Sonya with Dan, as he wishes to destroy Satan – Vitaly Vitalyevich, and they need to prevent his ascension.

The banker provides them with a tent and provisions, and they head into the forest, where they are under his protection. However, an unfortunate accident interrupts their stay in the woods.

Vitaly Vitalyevich begins his Ascension, but how real is it?

**Episode 9 – Cursed**

The Secret Organization that hired selected individuals for supernatural experiments in Karbush has decided to punish Vega for her betrayal.

Vega opened a box and uncovered Vitaly Vitalyevich’s family secret, as well as learned about Sashka and little Sonya.

**Episode 10 – Welcome to other Reality**

Sashka is hiding from his evil father, Vitaly Vitalyevich, but his memories and feelings of guilt won’t let him find peace.

Vitaly Vitalyevich changes the course of Madina’s path for her true destiny.

Selina returns to Karbush to finally finish what she started long ago.

**Episode 2 – Alice Has Returned**

Now, Madina isn’t the only one who can snap her fingers and change events at will… This time, Selina wants to play not just with Madina but also with Yegor…

It’s unclear why she desires this…

**Episode 3 – False Curse**

This time, the adventures with Madina aren’t over yet… Our heroes are caught in a certain Curse that must be fixed immediately, or else someone will not forgive them.

**Episode 4 – Battle of Personalities**

Madina once again finds herself in the spotlight. Her struggle between her inner personalities continues…

**Episode 5 – Cult 2**

A grand story unfolds, and the heroes are no longer tossed between the past and present; everything is happening here and now. Currently, Dima, Alice’s ex-boyfriend, is taking the lead and he aims to take Vitaly Vitalyevich’s place. Will he succeed?

**Episode 7 – Activation of Grace 2**

Madina, in her rebellious spirit, has caused quite a ruckus. Since Grace now resides in Yegor, it is essential to activate it. But what are the consequences? What is the price? And most importantly, who is willing to pay?

**Episode 8 – Almost Incest**

It turns out that the desire to play in another reality isn’t confined to Vitaly Vitalyevich, Madina, Selina, or Dima… There’s another being, either human or something else, who wants to test the heroes to the very end and is willing to resort to any perversion to achieve their goal…

**Episode 9 – How It Really Was…**

That’s it! Enough with the games! Vitaly Vitalyevich has grown stronger and has decided to start his own game. After all, everyone remembers the saying—everyone has their own plans for this Grace.

And let’s not forget who is truly pulling the strings behind all of them.

**Episode 10 – Cursed**

Vitaly Vitalyevich is willing to go to great lengths, and he has proven this more than once. He is eager to acquire this Grace and plunge time into the abyss of Another Reality.

Welcome to the house of the Secret Organization. The missions are over. The illusions no longer work. Selina finds herself in a basement, and a truly different story begins—another reality!

The scenes were filmed for three seasons; the first season has already been released, and the second and third seasons are currently in the editing stage. Preparations for the fourth season are underway (the script is being written).

Each story is designed to be a trilogy, with a total of six stories planned. The series is a completely experimental project originating from a remote village in the Siberian district of the Omsk region, created as an experiment to understand the entire process from film production to distribution.

The series is considered amateur, which remains its distinguishing feature compared to all professional projects. The entire project was shot using the personal funds of the director and his acquaintances (patrons and investors). The director worked tirelessly, often sleepless nights, to capture every moment of his beloved project.

The series is filmed in the style of American Horror Story and Paranormal Activity, as reported by test audiences at screenings. The episodes were not assembled chronologically; although filming began back in 2011, the final version of what was shot will only be released in the third season.

Initially, the film «Another Reality: Remember Everything» was released, and then the storyline was expanded, transforming the project into a series.

The series has spin-off films, «Cursed,» from 2011 and 2016, which were released in limited distribution in Omsk. The plots of these films are integrated into the series’ storyline and appear in episodes of the first and third seasons.

The series «Another Reality» is primarily about how the main characters overcome the barrier between our present reality and the non-reality that exists in our thoughts, dreams, or in the stories and metaphors we share… Each has their own version, their own goal, their own dream…

But there is one thing that unites them all… Each character is connected to this story, each is involved, and everyone must do what will lead to a common goal… Ascension)))
