Promotion

The Another Reality series project will be celebrating its 15th anniversary in the fall of 2024, and there has never been a company, distributor, partner, media outlet, or agency that would promote it 100%, or, as they say, take on the burden of advertising and promoting it…

No!

Local media promotions took place in March 2010 and the winter of 2016, and unfortunately that’s all the information we have.

All other promotion methods are not yet disclosed, but it was only in 2023 that Pavel decided to promote exclusively through the referral system, website content, and online SEO.

By the way, there’s been a very good increase in views of promotional videos and announcements on the YouTube channel right now, and Smart TV apps also saw a good amount of views in the spring of 2020, but this was again a test to determine which promotional channels were most effective.

Reviews of the series

You can only read real reviews of the series on a Russian website on Kinopoisk, and even then only for the spin-off film Cursed 2016.

Filming location

The main location of the events is the village of Verkhniy Karbush, so permanent filming locations were chosen both in the city of Omsk and in the surrounding areas of the Omsk region, and locally, some scenes were filmed and voiced in the urban districts of Sochi in the Krasnodar region.

Music and Composers

It wasn’t until 2012 that the series acquired a composer, Evgeniy Sadykov, who is also an actor in the series (he wrote wonderful compositions that fit the plot very well).

Then came no less important compositions, but well suited to the mood of the series – these are Evgeny Trakhanov and Pyotr Panyavin.

And since 2016, numerous tracks have appeared from American composer Kevin MacLeod, the tracks have become the most catchy for their arrangement and instrumentation.

According to the rules, the director should, of course, sit down during a rough cut and simply write music from scratch for every scene and every episode, but since this is impossible and sometimes the music would cost even more than the episode itself, Pavel decided to enter into a CC agreement with his company and, if he receives compensation, make royalties for the use of music in the series.

Special effects

Unfortunately, the creators abandoned special effects, as they lacked the budget and specialists for it.

The main focus of the plot and the show’s gimmick are drama and acting (so that the viewer believes the hero, so that he gets goosebumps, so that he understands that he is in that very different reality with the hero)

Writing Team

The main idea for the series came from Pavel Latushkin, since he had to do everything himself, and he was helped to come up with ideas and write dialogue by Yana Chapaeva, Maria Kharchenko, Anara Nurbaeva, Natalia Taran, Alexandra Afanasyeva, Sofia Mogil, Sergey Bubnov, Sergey Khlyntsev, Anton Shevchenko, and Alexander Gudkov.

In its early days, when the series was still a film in 2010 and bore the ugly title of “Hell,” it was clear it looked more like a fan-made Hellraiser. So, thanks to Maria Kharchenko joining the team, she and the other members spent all night working on the idea, writing the script, working on the dialogue, and literally the next day rushing to Verkhniy Karbush to film this hot story.

Later, work began on another film (Cursed 2011), with Natalia Taran and Anara Nurbayeva writing the script. In fact, Cursed 2011 is considered a project of the golden team of Pavel Latushkin, Igor Suppes, Natalia Taran, and Anara Nurbayeva (Mukhanzharova). At that point, the team was a well-oiled unit (of course, there were arguments, disagreements, and squabbles), but everyone found common ground and were truly creative. Then Pavel began to think that he didn’t want to part with such a team quickly and wanted to make long-term projects with them.

And then, in 2014, Yana Chapaeva became the permanent script assistant.

But Pavel still had to change the script and plot almost on the fly, all because the project was amateur, many worked without any salary, so there were unpleasant moments (actors didn’t show up), people left, refused, and so on…. Therefore, if you compare the plot as planned and watch what was finally filmed, you can immediately see the difference: the series deviates from the original idea by 80%.

The spirit of the series “Another Reality” was fueled by such films as “Hellraiser” and series as “Supernatural,” “Salem,” “The 100,” “Boulevard Horror,” “Lucifer,” “Constantine,” and “American Horror Story.”

Therefore, the main idea of the series is another reality, when something secret and unidentified constantly pursues the heroes and does not let them go until the very end… Therefore, in no case – no matter what the script, no matter the plot, but in the hero’s gaze, in his words, actions and thoughts – the same other reality must be present, and the viewer must feel it.

Myths, facts, and metaphors of the series

The first season introduced the demon (Satan) and (Boss) Vitaly Vitalyevich, who allegedly suffered from split personality disorder from the anomalous catacombs. It was in the catacombs that he posed as Satan.

The heroes will utter many terms related to the world of demons, shadows and the mysteries of magic, occult objects, amulets, seals, knives and other legends of witchcraft and cult.

The plot will also hint at the existence of the city of Asgrad Iria in a past life—where the Gods lived, where a powerful force existed that enveloped the city of Asgrad like a protective field and protected its inhabitants and Gods from illness, disease, and enemies. This force is called Grace.

This story isn’t about magic and witchcraft, but about people who have encountered it, and the audience will see how the characters process it. The main goal, of course, is to prevent the audience from seeing the evil, the undead, the demonic, the witchcraft, and the occult—but it’s part of the plot, it’s part of the characters, and it’s in their best interests to go through it to understand how to fight, how to win, and, most importantly, to stay alive.

But even if the hero dies, it doesn’t mean he’s gone forever (there’s always a force that will resurrect the body, but it will be a different person). He’ll continue to bear the burden of the dead, but he’ll become something or someone else… But who he’ll become is known only to the other reality itself.

It’s always interesting to see where this schizophrenia will lead, but be prepared for the plot to shift so dramatically that you’ll feel like, “How could this be possible?!” That’s right! This is a different reality! Anything can happen in it at any moment!

The creators of the series have moved away from standard templates and cliches; they conceived this project to surprise and knock you out.

Characters

The series focuses on another reality, on the incomprehensible events that surround not only our heroes – but the plot shows how easy it is to get drawn into this eternal struggle between good and evil. Therefore, the plot will revolve around Selena, Madina, and Vitaly Vitalyevich, played by Alexandra Afanasyeva, Yana Chapaeva, and Vitaly Orover. They are so drawn into the events of another reality that it sometimes seems that this whole story is spinning because of them.

Selena (Alexandra Afanasyeva) is writing a book about another reality. She assures her friends that she has fascinating dreams, and then recounts them in her books. However, Selena is shocked when it later turns out she wrote about real events that have already happened, as well as those that are yet to come true. Her book is mentioned repeatedly throughout the storyline, throughout all three seasons.

Madina (Yana Chapaeva) is a naturally strong woman. She claims to have saved the world, saved people, and destroyed evil many times. However, this time, she’s decided to take on wards who have suffered the turmoil of fate. Victims who visited the Catacombs of the village of Verkhniy Karbush have become insane, and the power that resides within them transforms people into psychopaths, maniacs, and even clairvoyants. Madina’s mission is to help, warm, and love. But much has befallen Madina, and she’ll have to be fully prepared.

Vitaly Vitalyevich (Vitaly Orover) – This character is a unique character, possessing a hidden sexual passion and a touch of evil. Throughout the first season, viewers will have to ponder whether he’s truly kind, or whether he’s evil, whether he’s been deliberately faking it, or whether it’s just the catacombs that are influencing people, or whether magic is involved. The only thing that’s unclear is how he managed to pull off several bad deeds simultaneously, while everyone considers him just another schizophrenic.

The series doesn’t have many main characters, but it does have a large number of secondary characters such as:

Sasha (Alexander Gudkov) – A good friend who is aiming to be Selena’s first boyfriend, also enthusiastically read her stories from the book, invited her to hang out and meet, but Selena has other plans, so Sasha has to compromise and he is going to show her something more than what she writes.

Sonya (Sofia Mogil) – A ten-year-old girl, Selena’s close friend, she is deeply fascinated by Selena’s stories about another reality.

Anton (Anton Shevchenko) – A victim of anomalous catacombs, but he used to fight evil spirits.

Pavel (Pavel Latushkin) – Pavel is the owner of the house where the victims of the anomalous catacombs, led by Madina, have settled. Although he is an ordinary victim of those same anomalous catacombs, he was literally deposed as the owner of the house. But for some reason, everyone forgot that he hired Selena, or rather, forced her to finish the book and come to him in Verkhniy Karbush, the very house where the other reality began.

Danil (Vlad Blinov) – A victim of anomalous catacombs, he began to live with Madina, under her care, and also became part of something bigger. He is in love with Madina and is ready to do good and bad deeds for her.

Elisey (Valentin Morskoy) – A former journalist, charming, handsome, and young, just the kind Madina loves. Unfortunately, Elisey has a different destiny, one that won’t be connected to the Other Reality. This character exists precisely so the viewer understands what’s real and what’s not. It’s like the line between before and after, or between the lines.

Nadezhda (Maria Khrabrostina) – Nadezhda is a former journalist, along with Elisha, who is investigating information about the events that took place in the village of Verkhniy Karbush. She got so carried away that she didn’t notice that she had become part of this other reality.

Max (Maxim Gavrilov) – He accidentally stumbled upon the catacombs, Madina, and all those who were there. He decided to film his own show about the otherworldly and tell the whole world that he witnessed mysterious events that took place in Verkhniy Karbush, make a ton of money on this show, and live in luxury.

Dan (Radio Eldrakhanov) is another friend of Sonya’s. He helps her find herself and become who she is. However, Dan himself is the last to remember about himself. He doesn’t know what to do, because the further he dives into another reality, the more he forgets about it, and the memory of his past life is erased.

Sergey, Banker, Taxi Driver (Sergey Bubnov) – Another atypical member of the union from another reality. Rumor has it that he’s a fictional character, that he doesn’t exist in reality, that he was created by the other reality itself to protect the other world from evil and low-quality people. But in reality, it was Pavel who appointed him to be the protector of the other reality. His job is to filter the chosen ones; he alone decides who can enter and who can’t.

Vega, Lillith (Maria Pyzhikova) – A pretty girl, a businesswoman, who also practices magic and witchcraft. She possesses a unique gift, and is also cursed and has multiple personalities. She has a very strong influence on Vitaly Vitalyevich.

Vlada (Daria Ermakova) – she can’t be called a victim of the anomalous catacombs; she became the chosen one for all these sinister events. She acts as a guide, also a clairvoyant. She saw the entire history of the anomalous catacombs from a distance and rushed to her destination in Verkhniy Karbush. Vlada never actually entered the catacombs, but from a distance she became a guide and a continuation of the story of the victims.

Vita (Julia Star) is a close friend and client of Vlada’s. She comes to her to look prettier for her banker. A very strange person, she wants everything at once, her mind is only filled with horror stories and men, but she loves the reward more than her life.

Makar (Artem Krivonosov) – Falling in love with Vlada again, they had a relationship in the past, but Vlada invited him to bed only to satisfy her hunger, heat, ardor and understand who she is.

Dima (Vitaly Marx) – Another character from another reality, who hasn’t yet been to the catacombs, but already has his own charms in mind. His main goal is to understand another reality, gain strength and conquer the world, even reshape this world in his own image. Dima is one of those characters who stirred up the Other Reality mess; he performed the Cult ritual and summoned Madina.

Episode 1 – Cult

Alice moved to the village to live with her boyfriend, Dima. They plan to renovate their new home and start a family together. But as soon as Alice crossed the threshold of this house, strange and incomprehensible phenomena began to occur.

She constantly feels like someone or something is following her, trying to scare her and drive her out of this place. Alice also often experiences strange dreams that she can’t explain.

It’s clear that all these events are not accidental, and Alice must find out the truth about what’s happening.

It turns out that the house they live in has a connection to past events that she must unravel.

Episode 2 – Escapism

Selena, a girl with the rare gift of Escapism, decided to visit Alice and Dima’s home because she’s writing a book about the Other Reality, starring Alice and Dima. Their home has become a source of inspiration for her. The time has come for a new mission, and the client is Pavel. Selena will have to test the new abilities she’s been granted…

Can Selena handle the task? How far is she willing to go? Will she survive?

Episode 3 – Anomalous Zone

The main storyline follows Madina as she explores anomalous catacombs where victims change and become different.

The story of Selena, who writes a book about a parallel reality, where she discovers strange dreams about Vitaly Vitalyevich, who ended up in the catacombs and was subjected to an inexplicable force.

After Selena’s condition begins to worsen, her friend Sonya asks her friend Sasha for help. Together, they decide to travel to Upper Karbush, a place Selena wrote about in her books. Selena, Sonya, and Sasha enter the catacombs, where Selena is attacked by someone…

Episode 4 – Journalists

The heroine, Madina, attended an interview with “ex” journalists, who showed great interest in the mysterious catacombs and her house. The house where Madina lives is a refuge for strange people who have visited the abandoned catacombs, which turn into anomalous zones that change the lives of their visitors forever. Madina strives to help these people and return them to normal life, but it turns out there are far more problems than she expected. During her absence, Daniil, responding to Madina’s rejection of love, decides to take revenge on all of her charges. As a result, Madina decides to go and treat the catacombs for the anomalous zone…

Episode 5 – The New Gifted

The story of Vlada, who is visited every night by a man for intimate relations… Is it true or not? A question Vlada must decide for herself. Her friend Vita, jokingly, advises Vlada to find a man if she has such dreams.

But everything that’s happening isn’t a coincidence… Vlada decides to take drastic measures to deal with the problem of her dreams. She starts an affair with her ex… but, unfortunately, nothing works out.

Vita’s advice proves useless. Now nightmares haunt Vlada not only in her dreams, but also in reality—she literally plunges into illusions of the past, recalling events in the catacombs and in the house where Madina and her charges lived…

Episode 6 – Activation of Grace

The ghost Pavel has appeared to Madina, thirsting for revenge for his death. But now Madina herself is suffering, as after healing the catacombs, she gained incredible powers that began to weigh on her.

She plunges into strange hallucinations, where everything that happens can be mistaken for true reality.

However, Vitaly Vitalyevich, a villain from the catacombs, appears on her horizon and invites her to open up another reality for him.

Episode 7 – The End of Descendants

Vlada still sees events of the past… In the company of her beloved Makar, Vlada is visiting, she unknowingly stays with the good-natured Vega, but memories of Vega’s past do not bring any positive results…

Vlada arrived in Karbush, found the very house where the events of the anomalous zone took place, and calmed down…

Vita is even more eager to receive her well-deserved reward for her excellent work, but Vitaly Vitalyevich comes onto the scene with his own plans…

Episode 8 – Who Am I?

Sonya turns to Dan for support and finds herself in her new acquaintance. Meanwhile, we follow Madina, who is also searching for herself and suffering from memory loss.

The banker helps Madina, Sonya, and Dan, as he wants to destroy Satan—Vitaly Vitalyevich—and they need to prevent his ascension.

The banker provides them with a tent and provisions, and they retreat into the forest, where they are under his protection. However, an accident occurs, cutting their stay in the forest short.

Vitaly Vitalyevich is beginning his Ascension, but how realistic is it?

Episode 9 – Cursed

The Secret Organization, which hired select individuals for supernatural experiments in Karbush, decided to punish Vega for her betrayal.

Vega opened the box and discovered Vitaly Vitalyevich’s family secret, and also learned about Sasha and the little girl Sonya.

Episode 10 – Welcome to Another Reality

Sashka is hiding from his evil father, Vitaly Vitalyevich, but his memories and feelings of guilt haunt him.

Vitalievich changes Madina’s direction to her true purpose.

It turns out that it’s not just Vitaly Vitalyevich, or Madina, or Selena, or Dima who loves to play in another reality… there’s another one, either a person or a creature, and he wants to test the heroes to the very end and will resort to any perversion…

That’s it! We’ve played enough! Vitaly Vitalyevich has grown stronger and decided to start his own game. After all, everyone remembers this phrase—everyone has their own plans for this Grace.
