The main idea for the series originated with Pavel Latushkin, as he had to do everything himself, while others helped him generate ideas and write dialogues, including Yana Chapaeva, Maria Kharchenko, Anara Nurbaeva, Natalia Taran, Alexandra Afanasyeva, Sofia Mogil, Sergey Bubnov, Sergey Khlynzev, Anton Shevchenko, and Alexander Gudkov.
In the early days, when the series was still a film in 2010 and bore the unfortunate title «The Abyss,» it was clear that it resembled more of a fan-made project inspired by the movie «Hellraiser.» However, thanks to Maria Kharchenko joining the team, she and the others spent entire nights at fast-food restaurants refining the idea, writing the script, and developing the dialogues. They literally rushed to Upper Karbush the next day to shoot this hot storyline.
Later, work began on another film (Cursed 2011), with Natalia Taran and Anara Nurbaeva taking on the role of screenwriters. The film «Cursed 2011» is considered a project of the golden team of Pavel Latushkin, Igor Suppes, Natalia Taran, and Anara Nurbaeva (Mukhanjarova). During this time, the team was well-structured (of course, there were disputes, disagreements, and quarrels), but everyone managed to find common ground and engage in true creativity. At that moment, Pavel had a thought in his mind that he did not want to part ways quickly with such a team and aimed to work on long-term projects with them.
Starting in 2014, Yana Chapaeva became a permanent script assistant.
However, Pavel still had to frequently change the script and storyline on the fly, because the project was amateur, and many worked without any remuneration, which led to unpleasant moments (actors not showing up), leaving, declining, and so on. Therefore, if we compare the originally planned storyline with what ultimately was filmed, it becomes immediately apparent that the series differs from the initial conception by about 80%.
The inspiration for the spirit of the series «Another Reality» came from films like «Hellraiser» and series such as «Supernatural,» «Salem,» «The 100,» «Boulevard Horrors,» «Lucifer,» «Constantine,» and «American Horror Story.»
Thus, the main idea of the series is another reality, where something secretive and unidentified constantly pursues the characters and does not let them go until the very end. Therefore, no matter what the script or plot may be, the essence of that other reality must be present in the character’s gaze, words, actions, and thoughts, and the audience should feel it.
